New Research on Youth Mental Health in Greece
A large-scale study on youth mental health in Greece is expected to launch in the immediate future, led by the SNF Global Center for Child & Adolescent Mental Health at the Child Mind Institute, in collaboration with the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Initiative (CAMHI), to ensure close alignment with national priorities.
This is the first nationally representative survey to systematically capture the mental health of children, adolescents, and young people aged 3 to 24, covering the full developmental spectrum—from early childhood to young adulthood. Its goal is to address a significant gap: the lack of reliable national data to support the planning of mental health policies and services.
The study will include approximately 10,000 interviews and will provide national-level estimates on:
- the prevalence of mental health difficulties and disorders
- emotional and behavioral outcomes
- risk of suicide and self-harm
- risk and protective factors, such as family environment, school connectedness, sleep, adverse experiences, and digital behaviors
- help-seeking patterns and access to services, highlighting needs and potential gaps in the system of care.
Data collection will be carried out using LUMI (Library of Universal Mental Health Instruments). This modern, internationally validated, and culturally adapted assessment tool enables reliable measurement and international comparability of results.
The data collected will serve as a foundation for:
- strengthening prevention and early intervention
- improving the planning of mental health services
- informing policies across health, education, and digital life
- enabling long-term monitoring of youth mental health in Greece.
The data collection phase is crucial, as the active participation of households contributes to building a reliable national picture of the mental health of children and young people.

CAMHI is exclusively supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) as part of its Global Health Initiative (GHI).
